Rongo Sub-County Hospital outreach

HACEP Kenya visited Rongo Sub-County Hospital to deliver test kits and train stakeholders

As part of county-wide strengthening of newborn SCD screening services, HACEP Kenya visited Rongo Sub-County Hospital to deliver test kits and facilitate stakeholder training focused on implementation quality and continuity of care.

The engagement brought together facility teams and local health leadership to align screening workflows, clarify referral responsibilities, and improve tracking of newborns from screening through follow-up appointments.

"A strong screening program depends on reliable supplies, skilled teams, and clear communication with families."

Stakeholders identified practical steps to enhance caregiver counseling, reduce missed referrals, and strengthen routine data review for evidence-based decision making.

Highlights from the Rongo Sub-County Hospital session

  • Handover and accountability procedures for test kits
  • Refresher on newborn SCD screening standards
